On Tuesday, May 17, 2022, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced nearly $50 million in funding for the Burchill Wind Limited partnership, a partnership between Wolumsket (a company owned by Neqotkuk, aka Tobique First Nation), Tobique First Nation and Natural Forces Development, to deploy renewable energy and grid modernization technologies to support clean energy to Saint John. The federal government of Canada invested in community-led clean energy projects with Indigenous communities to develop innovative solutions that will displace fossil fuels, advance reconciliation and self- determination, and combat climate change.
